Better Health Starts With Number One

One of the first things needed in the quest for healthy living is admitting that daily dietary habits are not doing you any good.
The following are some ideas to help you make the changes needed to be successful in that quest.

1. Any kind of change starts in the brain. Approach each day with the thought in mind that the only way to be healthy is to eat healthy and exercise.
The mind can do miraculous things if you let it. Be proud of your decision to change the way you are doing things. It is easy to continue along the
unhealthy path, but a lot harder to make the necessary changes to be healthy.

2. Support your new way of thinking by learning everything you can about ways of reaching better health and living a healthier lifestyle.
You can use the internet, books, DVDS, clubs, gyms and support groups to your benefit. Knowing everything you can about healthy living gives you a
great base to work from.

3. You have to start somewhere so start by taking a look at your kitchen and reorganizing in preparation for your new way of life.
Reorganize your kitchen cabinets, cupboards and refrigerator to ensure that there are no temptations or foods from the old, unhealthy thinking you.

4. Make a shopping list of all the new, healthier foods you are going to need for your new healthy lifestyle. Make sure you purchase any items you might
need, such as a scale or blender, so you will be ready to create your healthier meals.

5. Get a large planner calendar, place it in your kitchen in a prominent position and mark the day you have chosen to begin your new healthy lifestyle.
Be determined not to let anything stand in your way of your goal of healthy living.

6. Many people find that keeping a journal is a great way of looking back to the beginning of your new healthy lifestyle. You can either use a physical
book or put it on your computer. It is important to be able to see the changes that are taking place now that you are changing your life for the better.

7. There may be times when you will feel like you can't make it through the day, but this is where positive self-talk comes in handy. You have made the
decision to be healthier, so pump yourself up! Any negative thoughts can be dismissed with serious reflection and positive re-enforcement for yourself.

8. Along with changes to your diet you will also need to make changes to the amount of exercise you get per day. While good healthy food is essential,
exercise is also just as important to help ward off diseases such as heart disease, as well as helping us to firm up our body or lose a few pounds.

9. Although you know about the risks involved, now is the time to give up any bad habits or addictions, such as smoking or drinking. Neither are part of
a healthy lifestyle and you will never be able to reach your optimal peak of health while you are inhaling toxic nicotine fumes or drinking on a regular basis.
10. Be certain that you get the recommended 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day on your new regime. Packed full of vitamins, nutrients, fiber and all-around
good heatlth, fruits and vegetables are a major part of a healthy lifestyle.

11. Stress can undermine every attempt you make at living a healthy lifetstyle. Make sure you learn ways to eliminate as much stress from your
life as you possibly can. Research the various ways to handle stress and implement these daily.

12. Cut out excess salt, sugar and fatty foods from your diet, this will effectively lower your cholesterol and blood pressure, reducing the need for expensive
medications.
